Health Insurance

Coverage for you and your family

If you are self-employed or your employer does not offer you or your dependents health insurance, then you would have to buy health insurance.  Yes, it can be expensive, but based on your modified adjusted gross income you may qualify for a subsidy from Covered California, the online market place.  Edsel Dsouza is a certified agent on Covered California who will assist you to get coverage for your and your family based on your needs and budget.

Two paths to individual health insurance

There are two pathways to obtaining individual health insurance:

1. Obtain your plan from the insurance companies that offer individual plans. (Some companies offer employer plans but do not offer individual plans) or

2.  Obtain your plan through the online marketplace i.e. Covered California.

Covered California (Obamacare) was introduced as a way to help Americans to get access to affordable health coverage.  The big benefit of buying your plans through Covered California is that you may qualify for a tax subsidy based on your Modified Adjusted Gross Income for the current year.  Speak to your accountant to confirm that number.

Below are just a few of the concerns Edsel resolves with clients everyday regarding individual health coverage:

  • I have a pre-existing condition. Will I be covered?

  • I’m starting my own business and I don’t qualify for an employer plan yet

  • My employer only offers HMO’s and it doesn’t cover my needs

  • I’m not sure what my doctor/OBGYN/specialist/therapists accepts

  • I just lost my job and COBRA is super expensive

  • My child turned 26 and they are no longer eligible under my insurance

  • I don’t qualify for Medi-Cal, but I was automatically enrolled

  • I just moved to this country and none of this health insurance makes sense

Edsel's mission and goal is to assist you with any of these scenarios and more.  Additionally, as an independent agent, he educates you on your options based on your needs.

The most amazing part is you do not pay anything for Edsel's services.  He accepts whatever commission from the insurance carrier you choose.

  • Covered CA has updated a Silver plan that has no deductibles and lower copays. Previously, if your income was above a certain threshold, you would not have qualified.

  • Bronze plans now have unlimited doctor visits (previously only the first three non-preventative doctor visits were covered ) to see your Primary Care  team or Urgent Care. This will make a Bronze plan more viable as the premiums are lower than Silver.

  • Some of the companies are offering up to $422 in gift cards to complete your annual wellness exams and for participating in fun and easy activities.

  • All companies are improving access to mental health resources.

  • DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) recipients may now sign up for a Health plan through Covered California with a special enrollment of Nov 1, 2024.

Please schedule a call with Edsel to learn more about any of these benefits and he will get you signed up or he will renew your plans for 2025!
